This page contains some useful information and resources on domains.
A domain name is simply your address on the internet. It is where people can find your website by typing its name instead of a lengthy and hard to remember IP address. When you type the domain into your web browser the internet can see where the files of your website are hosted and so route visitors to that specific location.
A premium domain is one that has already been registered by a third party ie. a second-hand one that is no longer available to register at any registrar. This type of domain usually has pre-existing visitor traffic and is already listed and ranked in various search engines such as Yahoo, AOL, Bing and Google. Anyone can purchase a premium domain however they do cost considerably more than a freely available unregistered one.
These are simply the best domains on the market hence their higher price tag. They are extremely desirable due to their easy to pronounce and shorter more brandable characteristics. The most expensive are premium generic domains and these are usually either dictionary words, terms or well known sayings, a few examples are: films, vibrant, p2p, crowdfunding, working from home.
A comparison can be drawn between the UK property market where a new build house in Milton Keynes may be available to buy for hundreds of thousands of pounds but a property located in the centre of London could cost you millions. As with London property the appealing nature of owning a premium domain attracts thousands of new buyers each day in the UK. They all clearly have one thing in common though, and that is that they are looking for something special and unique to represent them and their business.
The initial outlay and cost of ownership of purchasing a premium domain are soon recouped when you consider all the many benefits one has, some of these include:
Pre-existing visitor traffic – From the word go your site can get immediate visitors as opposed to waiting for your marketing campaigns and search engine listings to be completed.
Listed page ranking – The domain may already be listed in multiple search engines like Yahoo, AOL, Bing and Google, which can produce immediate sales leads and contacts through your website.
A shorter, more desirable name – Easy to pronounce, shorter and more memorable for your customers.
All-in-all owning a premium domain can produce fantastic results generating extra income for your business whilst having a name that looks as good as it sounds! Don’t wait until someone else snaps-up your ideal name, buy your premium domain today and start experiencing the many benefits it has to offer!
